Peanut island is the perfect way to spend a Sunday funday in the summers of south Florida! Located in Palm Beach, this little piece of paradise is accessed by boat, kayak, water taxi, or paddle board. Soak up the sun on the sandbar, prepare a meal on the grilling stations, or spend an entire weekend camping. Peanut island is a must do activity if you are in the Palm Beach are – Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, Lake Worth Beach, West Palm Beach, or any of the surrounding areas. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed with this day trip!

“This unique eighty acre tropical park is situated in the Intracoastal Waterway near the Lake Worth Inlet in close proximity to Phil Foster Park, the City of Riviera Beach, and the Port of Palm Beach. The park is a favorite destination for boaters and provides numerous recreational opportunities for visitors. Fishing and snorkeling are popular activities in the beautiful clear waters that surround the island. Guarded and unguarded swimming beaches provide the perfect access for bathers of all ages to enjoy the sun and fun.” – Trip Advisor

1. The Sandbar
Who doesn’t love a good sandbar on a hot summer day?? On the north side of peanut island, looking towards Blue Hearon Bridge, is one of my favorite sand bars. Boats, kayaks, and paddle boarders, pack in to enjoy the blue and shallow waters. Pack your favorite drinks and bring your pup for a sunshine filled day.
I love bringing the Yeti Cooler bag with us – it fits everything that we need for the day (drinks, snacks, ice) and it’s easy to carry around with the large shoulder straps.
The last trip we made to Peanut Island, the group hanging out next to us had this AWESOME raft. You can lay, sit, stand, etc and it’s so comfy for lounging in the water. One day when I have a big boat, I’ll definitely be purchasing one of these.

2. The Sunsets
You will see my write about sunrises and sunsets a lot – well, because I love them! Finding a good spot for the sunset on the east coast of Florida is sometimes tough. From Peanut Island, there are only a few boats in between you and the sun which makes for a beautiful sky pretty much every evening. The island gets pretty quiet when the sun starts to fade so it becomes even more peaceful.

3. The (almost) Private Beaches
There are several beach areas on the island and if you’re lucky enough, you’ll get one all to yourself!
One of the best ways to relax is at the beach. Take advantage of the secluded sand areas at Peanut Island.

4. The Crystal Clear Blue Water
On a hot summer day, what else could be better than hanging out in the water all day? At Peanut Island, the water is shallow, warm, and crystal clear.

5. It’s Easily Accessible
You don’t need to have a boat or a friend with a boat to enjoy this little slice of paradise. The Peanut Island Shuttle Boat or Water Taxi runs regularly and gets you to/from peanut island in about 10 minutes!
My boyfriend has a small 10′ inflatable boat that is perfect for getting to/from Peanut Island. We drop it in the water at the boat ramp near by and we’re at Peanut in 5 minutes!

I went and it was pretty cool. Unfortunately I went there for snorkeling and the fish there were not as cool as other places in west palm. Overall great island, cool beaches, and clear blue waters.

Even smaller children can snorkel at Peanut Island. It is quite shallow near the rocks where colourful fish swim often in schools. My grandchildren loved the sandbar. We live close enough to go when we want to.
