Furnishing an Airbnb property can get expensive, quick. That’s why you should make sure to stick to a budget and find creative ways to work with it. There are many different ways you can learn how to furnish an Airbnb for cheap like used furniture, wholesale online marketplaces, and clearance items at the store. In this post, I’m sharing everything I have learned while making my properties stand out and how to furnish Airbnb on a budget.

I recently became an Airbnb host (you can come stay in my beach bungalow) and learned so much in the process. Furnishing and stocking my new house was one of the most fun and stressful parts all at the same time.
There’s so much to think about! You want to create a stylish space for guests to enjoy all while not going over the top and spending way too much money on furniture and home decor.
Believe me, the amount of money you could potentially spend on furnishing and stocking your space can grow way too quickly without a budget.
Best Online Marketplaces For Affordable Airbnb Furnishings
To start, here is a list of online resources that I use all the time to buy furniture and decor for my short term rentals.
- Wayfair Short Term Rental Deals
- Amazon – search for Airbnb specific rooms
- Facebook Marketplace
- Walmart – don’t knock it til you try it!
Tip 1: Make A Detailed List With Numbers $$$
Create a real budget.
Do not just throw out a ballpark number you think you will spend to furnish and stock your Airbnb.
If you do just guess, add 50% and that would probably be more accurate!
But seriously…list out everything, and I mean everything, you think you will need.
The little things add up quicker than you think.
Tip 2: Accent With Used Furniture
At first I thought I wanted to buy everything brand new! But furniture is EXPENSIVE.
There are so many items that don’t necessarily need to be new and sometimes used furniture is better quality than the stuff they make now a days.
Facebook Marketplace was my savior!! So many people refresh old solid wood furniture pieces and re-sell them.
Like these end tables that I got for The Beach Life Bungalow! They are both solid wood side tables that came from someone selling them on Facebook Marketplace.
The seafoam green end tables are used in the living room and were re-painted by the person selling them.
They are unique and go perfectly with the design I was going for. They were cheaper than new ones and will last longer because they are real wood.
Tip 3: Use Online Resources Like Amazon & Wayfair
Amazon and other online shops have everything from bed frames, to coffee makers, to sheets, to rugs, and everything in between.
As much as I love shopping at Home Goods and wanting to buy everything cute that I see, it’s not practical.
Buying furniture and accessories online is easy, convenient, and 99% of the time less money than in stores.
Wayfair has an entire section dedicated to short term rentals! This is perfect for finding pieces that you know are built for renters.
Especially for items like towels and linens, it’s simple and budget friendly to purchase them online.
This also allows you to keep track of exactly what you bought in case something needs to be replaced (which will happen).
Tip 4: Get Creative and Funky!
Clearance items are a great way to add fun design elements to your space.
Maybe there’s something that you wouldn’t normally put in your own home – but vacationers love something a little different.
Use bold colors and fun color combinations that will create a unique look.
People love a little something different when they are away on vacation.
